OHS Management System

AS/NZS4801 describes the process of occupational health and safety management as a cyclic model of continuous improvement. Our continuous improvement framework is based around the following five fundamental OHS management system components:

Policy
Our Generating Safety Policy is a statement detailing our commitment, intentions and principles in relation to occupational health and safety performance. The policy provides organisational direction and a framework for action through the establishment of occupational health and safety objectives and targets.

Planning
Planning involves a process to identify and manage hazards through a risk management approach, identifying and maintaining currency on legal and other requirements, and setting occupational health and safety performance objectives in line with our safety policy.

Implementation
Implementing the system requires establishing processes for:

  • defining required roles, responsibilities and authorities;
  • implementing relevant training;
  • consultation and communication;
  • ensuring that documentation is accessible and current;
  • managing hazards;
  • defining requirements of contractors and suppliers; and
  • developing an appropriate emergency response capability.

Checking and corrective action
We undertake routine monitoring to verify our occupational health and safety performance and compliance against regulatory and other requirements and our corporate commitments, and to ensure continuous improvement across Stanwell.

Management review
The purpose of the review is to assess the effectiveness of the system and to determine whether any changes in policy, objectives, methods or philosophy are necessary to meet the current or future needs of the operation.
